The End of the Chocolatey

Shipping Season is Drawing Near

While we all look forward to warmer temperatures and longer days, one thing we don’t look forward to this time of year is the end of our Chocolatey Shipping Season.  Shipments have already been suspended to a number of southern states due to warm temperatures and before you know, it we’ll be unable to ship anywhere until temperatures cool in the fall.  Be sure to sock-up on your favorites now, if you can, before it’s too late.  Otherwise, we’ll let you know when shipping begins again this fall!

Meet Jason Michie

Customer Support Specialist

Join us in welcoming Jason Michie to the Whitley’s team.  Jason joined Whitley’s as a seasonal worker in Customer Care last October.  When the holiday rush slowed in January, Jason was asked to stay with us on a full-time permanent basis.  Jason has more than two-decades experience in customer support, most recently working with a national health care provider.  He enjoys helping our customers with their orders and questions and is committed to ensuring everyone he speaks with comes away knowing they have been assisted in a professional and helpful manner.  When not working Jason enjoys reading and gaming and “hanging out” with his two cats, Mini and Baby.  Welcome Jason!

 

A change is coming to how we communicate product shelf-life recommendations on our tins, tubs, and pouches.  Beginning April 1, 2025, all of the products we make, (excluding our roasted-n-shell peanuts), will be transitioning to a “Best By” date format versus the current Julian Calendar Manufactured Date format.  This change is being made to simplify the communication of shelf-life expectancy for our customers.  Rest assured nothing has changed in the quality of our products or their actual shelf lives.  In fact, the shelf life of our tins has been extended from 12 to 15 months. If you are wondering more:

“Best By” dates have been established based on several studies and sensory evaluations performed, internally and by a third party, to determine when quality characteristics are at their peak.

“Best By” dates are specific to peak quality, and are not expiration dates. Our “Best By” dates are a conservative recommendation for the ideal timeframe to enjoy our products; our products are not unsafe to consume beyond that date.

It will take some time for products already in commerce to be transitioned to the new “Best By” date format. Until the transition is complete you will continue to find the Julian calendar Manufactured Date Format on products, which is to be expected.

All our products can be stored in the refrigerator to lengthen the time they maintain their peak quality.

Alice's Peanut Pie

Does the peanut know no limits when it comes to versatility?  I recently experimented with making a peanut pie with our Virginia Salted Peanuts.  This dessert is deeply rooted in southern culture and a staple at family gatherings and pot-lucks.  I shared the pie with my co-workers and the they loved it.  I hope you do too!

Ingredients:

1 cup light corn syrup

3 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 Tsp. vanilla extract

8 oz. plumped raisins divided

1 cup Whitley’s peanuts, chopped or whole

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325° F

In a large bowl, thoroughly beat together corn syrup, sugar, butter, vanilla, and eggs.  Set aside 2 Tbsp. of raisins for garnish.  Stir remaining along with chopped peanuts into the mixture.

Spread mixture into pie shell.

Place pie on baking pan into preheated oven.  When the crust browns (approx. 15-20 minutes), cover it with foil to prevent burning.  Continue baking until filling is a deep brown color and set.  Total of 1 hour.

Let cool completely.  Garnish with raisins and peanuts.
