Growing up in the redwoods, I spent most of my childhood outside. It was just what you did. Listening for the whistle and better be back before it was dark.
Now days, I spend way too much time inside, and like most of you, WAY too much time staring at my phone. It's actually embarrassing.
The question that keeps hitting me lately is how many summers do we actually have left? Think about it. Life is blasting by so fast now and the clock waits for no one.
This summer can be different! The Year of the Snake has been shed. 2026 is the 250th anniversary of America. I don't know about you but something about all of that makes me want to take a deep breath and shake it off. Time for some camping and self-care! Let's ditch the rat race for a bit and go hug some trees!
This is my pledge, and I'm putting it in writing so you can all hold me to it. This summer I'm turning off the news. Putting down my phone. Not looking at IG or any of the others. I will be spending more time looking at my wife's beautiful face, more time setting up camp, lighting camp fires, grilling and staring at the trees or the ocean and kicking sand!
I am so excited for this summer, I can't wait!
